Academic Purpose
Great schools have several things in common. They have a mission that is unapologetically followed and provide two important things to all students: a space that encourages the academic development of children and a supportive community to address the social emotional learning of all.
Our Vision of Teaching
Student learning is at the heart of all we do, but to be effective in our pursuit, we must continue to grow and learn as we challenge and support our students. Our curriculum is constantly evolving as we adapt to the changing needs of our students while maintaining national content standards and SPS community expectations. As a School, we learn, grow, and commit to excellence to be the best “high school preparatory school in the area.”
Our teaching requires a learning environment where the teacher:
Creates a safe and respectful setting where students trust and feel supported.
Integrates joy, creativity, and play into the experiences of our students.
Constructs opportunities for students to ask questions, take risks, and engage in meaningful learning.
Promotes reflection by encouraging students to ask essential questions about their learning and the world they live in.
Encourages, promotes, and celebrates the exploration of the identities of self and others, addresses bias, and focuses students on being inclusive.
Provides opportunities for the students to have agency in their own learning, participating in developing new ideas and new solutions to problems, and bringing meaning to their experiences.
Designs lessons that require students to think deeply, understand issues, and make connections.
Develops opportunities for students to be self-directed, engaged with higher order thinking skills, and finding success and challenge daily.
Stimulates creativity, physical movement, and active learning across all aspects of school.
Creates opportunities for students to find purpose and relevance in all learning.
