  • St. Peter’s School is an independent, coeducational, non-sectarian Preschool through Eighth Grade school, educating approximately 170 students in the center of historic Philadelphia for over 180 years. We are searching for a dynamic, engaging Creativity Teacher for Preschool through First Grade who is responsible for implementing an innovative creativity curriculum, incorporating art, music, children’s literature, theater, dance and performing arts experiences. The class is designed to help bring out the creativity that lives within us all and is experiential in nature. Supervising students in a positive, interactive climate that develops the creative talents of each student is the goal.

    This person collaborates with the School’s other Music and Art Faculty to create interdisciplinary units, share resources and develop unique and distinctive creative opportunities for the St. Peter’s students. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organizational skills, and the motivation to work collaboratively with current teachers to build a sense of community in and outside of the classroom.

    While the primary responsibilities for this role will be teaching Preschool through First Grade Creativity classes, there will be opportunities to be involved with other creative pursuits throughout the school. Instructing theater classes across all grade levels and working with our Upper Grades in theater and musical performances, helping students in our Recording Studio, and collaborating with other faculty to bring creativity into other classrooms are all possibilities depending upon the needs of the students.

    Additionally, the Creativity Teacher should be knowledgeable of current instructional practices, pedagogy and curriculum standards, and innovative approaches to art and music instruction; including project based learning. They should be a team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ability to work with all adults and children of different ages respectfully and consistently is important.

    Duties and responsibilities included but not limited to:

    • Prepares and implements Creativity classes, and provides leadership across the school in that area

    • Utilizes an inclusive repertoire of all types of creative literature, including music, art, movement and other areas which are appropriate for the age and developmental level of each class

    • Provides opportunities for students to demonstrate their creativity and encourages students to show pride in their work and their school

    • Fosters a joy and enthusiasm for creativity throughout the school

    • Works with the Upper School Chorus and other musical groups as needed

    • Knowledgeable in project based learning and theme based interdisciplinary instruction

    • Plans, rehearses and directs students in creative performances for the school

    • Evaluates each student’s creative growth and reports to parents about progress through the year

    • Listens and responds to student and parent concerns in a responsible and constructive manner

    • Implements a variety of instructional and assessment methods to meet the students where they are academically and creatively

    • Integrates use of educational technology, design-thinking, experiential education, and project-based learning that is age appropriate

  • The REACH Director oversees all aspects of programming and logistics that happen beyond dismissal each day and on selected days when school is closed.  This includes, but is not limited to, homework time, general supervision of students, Enrichment Classes, interacting with parents, administrative tasks associated with enrollment for classes, billing, and handling all situations that come up on a daily basis. The Director is responsible and accountable for the REACH staff, both internal as well as outside contractors who run enrichment programs on campus. This position is full time throughout the full school year, including summer. The Director will act as the primary school representative beyond 4PM each day and will either run, or staff an employee to manage the front desk to initiate interactions with parents or visitors. Hours are approximately 10:00 – 6:00 PM and full days during school vacation days when REACH is in session. This position reports to the Education Program Coordinator.

    Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Design and implement a program that is organized and creative

    • Lead with flexibility and problem solve issues that arise in programming, management, and collaboration conflict resolution

    • Oversee daily operations (i.e. daily check-in/dismissal, address parental concerns/questions, purchase snacks, etc.)

    • Hire and manage staff of five to eight REACH Instructors 

    • Program and staff Enrichment Clubs and post-dismissal homework time

    • Create Enrichment Brochures each Academic Term and work with Advancement to have information updated on website and in our School Newsletter

    • Maintain paperwork for attendance, Enrichment Clubs, and billing

    • Create and maintain After-School Program budget (planning, payroll, track expenses, etc.)

    • Assess and analyze programming each term/school year to ensure it is in line with the School’s Mission and the needs of the school community

Designing, planning and implementing an integrated science curriculum, commitment to challenging students of all levels academically, and understanding the social and emotional growth and development of school aged children are paramount in this role.     Beginning in Early Childhood and extending through Fifth Grade, this role establishes a foundation for scientific exploration, inquiry based approach to problem solving, and STEM awareness. SPS is also a United Nations Global School, establishing a link with the UNESCO program and utilizing the Seventeen UN’s Sustainable Development Goals as a part of our curriculum.   • REACH Instructors are an extension of St. Peter's School teachers and have the same expectations as everyone in our community. Their role is supervisory and involves planning programs and organizing activities for indoor and outdoor play for students of all ages. The engagement with the students includes but is not limited to, homework assistance, imaginative play, gross motor development, theme-based experiences, and STEM/technology when appropriate.

    Instructors should be prepared to engage with the students, refrain from social media and usage of phones, and model appropriate behavior for all in the community. This position is part-time throughout the academic year (September through mid-June) with a flat pay of $18 per hour. Hours are Monday - Friday, 2:30-5:30 PM, with opportunities for full-day work during days off of school or vacations/breaks in the school calendar. Instructors should be self-motivated, energetic, reliable, and responsible, with previous experience working with children--preferably in an educational setting. They should be engaging, adaptable, and professional with staff and parents and have a clear passion for honing their educational skills. Orientation and onboarding will occur during the last week of August or early September. Clearances and some training are included and will be outlined each fall.

    Additionally, the Instructor should be knowledgeable of student needs and age-appropriate interactions. They should be a team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills and an interest in seeing students and adults working collaboratively. The ability to work with all adults and children of different ages respectfully and consistently is important. Also responsible for other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
