  • St. Peter’s School is an independent, coeducational, non-sectarian Preschool through Eighth Grade school, educating approximately 170 students in the center of Philadelphia for over 180 years. We are seeking a full-time experienced Middle School Math teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. This is a one year position. The ideal candidate will have experience planning an integrated mathematics curriculum, is committed to challenging students of all levels academically, and understands the social and emotional growth and development of Middle School aged children. They are committed to academic excellence, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging, and engaging learners to be committed citizens of their communities. This teacher understands the social and emotional growth and development of middle school-aged children, and has a student-centered and creative approach to learning.

    The Upper School (gr. 6-8) math program begins with the Math in Focus curriculum for 6th Grade and ends with an integrated Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 for 7th and 8th Grades. Emphasis is placed on cooperative learning activities, inquiry and integration with our City Curriculum. The Math teacher also collaborates with the other middle school faculty to create and facilitate integrated project-based learning opportunities. The role includes serving as a student Advisor and helping ensure the smooth functioning of the schedule in 6th through 8th Grades.

    The teacher should be knowledgeable about current instructional practices, pedagogy and curriculum standards, assessments, and innovative approaches to implementing a relevant project-based curriculum. They should be a team player, eager to connect with students and adults alike, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Embracing the value of working with all adults and children of different ages respectfully and consistently and approaching their work with a growth mindset are all traits of excellent St. Peter’s teachers.     Duties and Responsibilities

    • Demonstrates strong classroom management skills and a commitment to each child’s progress while being organized, flexible, efficient, creative, comfortable with technology, and a problem-solver

    • Serves as an Upper Grades Advisor to students

    • Can effectively demonstrate and apply classroom management strategies

    • Demonstrates a willingness to and is capable and confident to teach online when needed

    • Teaches four classes or equivalent, including planning, assessing, and developing collaborative projects to meet the expectations of the grade level curriculum

    • Ensures that multicultural themes and diverse perspectives are incorporated into the curriculum          

    • Partners with families to support the child’s social and emotional well being and personal growth

    • Works collaboratively, and respectfully with all members of the St. Peter’s community

    • Advises students and works with students, parents, and other teachers to fully develop a picture of students’ strengths and learning needs 

    • Establishes positive relationships with students based on mutual respect and good will 

    • Integrates research-based, best practices and appropriate educational technology to support and differentiate instruction

    Qualifications and Requirements:

    • A minimum of three years of experience teaching in an Early Childhood setting

  • REACH Instructors are an extension of St. Peter's School teachers and have the same expectations as everyone in our community. Their role is supervisory and involves planning programs and organizing activities for indoor and outdoor play for students of all ages. The engagement with the students includes but is not limited to, homework assistance, imaginative play, gross motor development, theme-based experiences, and STEM/technology when appropriate.

    Instructors should be prepared to engage with the students, refrain from social media and usage of phones, and model appropriate behavior for all in the community. This position is part-time throughout the academic year (September through mid-June) with a flat pay of $18 per hour. Hours are Monday - Friday, 2:30-5:30 PM, with opportunities for full-day work during days off of school or vacations/breaks in the school calendar. Instructors should be self-motivated, energetic, reliable, and responsible, with previous experience working with children--preferably in an educational setting. They should be engaging, adaptable, and professional with staff and parents and have a clear passion for honing their educational skills. Orientation and onboarding will occur during the last week of August or early September. Clearances and some training are included and will be outlined each fall.

    Additionally, the Instructor should be knowledgeable of student needs and age-appropriate interactions. They should be a team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills and an interest in seeing students and adults working collaboratively. The ability to work with all adults and children of different ages respectfully and consistently is important. Also responsible for other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

    Expressing a positive attitude, interest in personal development, ability to work collaboratively on a team, ability to receive and implement feedback, maintaining flexibility, and demonstrating a willingness to adapt throughout the year are important.   • St. Peter’s School is seeking per diem substitute teachers who hold a B.A. degree for a variety of subjects across its three academic divisions:

    The school day for substitutes runs from 7:45 AM – 3:30 PM.
