Stocking Up for the Holidays
January 4th, 2011
St. Peter’s School participated in the Stockings for Kids toy drive through the Salvation Army. The program’s mission is to make the holiday season a happier time for thousands of underprivileged children throughout the Delaware Valley. This community service project was a great opportunity to teach our children about philanthropy, the nonprofit sector, and volunteerism; essentially, the joy of giving! Over the past fourteen years, Stockings for Kids has become a beloved Philadelphia tradition, having raised over $13 million in toy and cash donations to date; all of which has been distributed by The Salvation Army. What began as a school-focused holiday fundraiser has evolved into a movement that involves thousands of schools, corporations, individuals and community groups working together to help those who need it the most. We proudly delivered 55 well-stocked stockings prepared by Preschool -Eighth Grade. Special thanks to Ms. Melissa Alderfer for making us aware of the stocking drive and keeping everything organized.
