Polar Express Day in Kindergarten
December 15th, 2010
At St. Peter’s School there is a much cherished Kindergarten December tradition of celebrating the winter holidays with a Polar Express Pajama Day. After studying the classic picture book, The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg, the children come to school clad in pajamas, just like the children in the story who board the mystical train to the North Pole. Polar Express Pajama Day is spent watching the movie version of The Polar Express, eating pancakes and syrup, drinking hot chocolate, and journaling about our favorite pajamas. This year, Pajama Day fell on the same day as decorating the school Christmas tree, so the children had the chance to hang their ornaments (wooden trains decorated as The Polar Express) in their pajamas. At the end of the day, each child received a silver bell that came directly from the North Pole as a special keepsake of a wonderful day.
