Our Guatamalan Exchange Student
December 15th, 2010
St. Peter’s School welcomed its first foreign exchange student this fall from Guatemala. Erika stayed with a St. Peter’s School family, attended our School, and dove into American culture. While immersing herself here, Erika did a great job of sharing her Guatemalan culture and the Spanish language with our community. Erika helped in the After School Program and introduced Spanish and the Guatemalan culture to many of our younger students through visits to their classrooms during French classes and time in the After School Care Program. Erika was a true 7th grade St. Peter’s School student, attending all classes, doing homework, playing hand bells, singing in the chorus, and playing interscholastic sports. We enjoyed her positive spirit, willingness to try new things, and her great motivation to improve her English. Erika headed back home last Friday filled with new friendships, experiences and memories. We all wish her well and hope to stay in touch!
We are hopeful that Erika’s visit is the start of a new tradition of sharing St. Peter’s School with new Guatemalan friends each fall. The St. Peter’s School students, particularly the 7th grade class, will continue to communicate and build their friendship with Erika through the use of Skype and other communications.
