Good Deed-School Supply Drive
September 21st, 2009
This September, one St. Peter’s family ran a backpack and school supply drive for homeless children in our area. The drive, called “Operation Backpack,” was organized nationally by Volunteers of America. 800 homeless children registered a request through our local Volunteers of America, and by last week, the chapter had collected 900 backpacks and thousands of supplies. This means that when more children become homeless throughout the year, at least one organization will have a jump on helping them. The People’s Emergency Center estimates that there are over 5,000 homeless children in the City of Philadelphia. Please feel free to contact Volunteers of America ( http://www.voa.org/ ) or Project Home ( http://www.projecthome.org/ ) if you would like to help.
