Good Deed: Miss Lewin’s Kindergarten Class Quilt
June 1st, 2009
During the winter months, Miss Lewin’s Kindergarten class enjoyed The Quiltmaker’s Gift by Jeff Brumbeau and decided to create a beautiful quilt from felt pieces and a variety of craft materials. Each square featured a child’s self-portrait accented with the cutest of details like yarn eyeglasses, googly eyes, and toothy button smiles. The square also had each child’s name and birthdate lettered by Mrs. Lewin, Miss Lewin’s mom, who came to school one day to help with this special project. The front and back felt pieces of the blanket were hand-tied into knots by the children and went all around the edges. The quilt was on display until May, when the class donated it to the St. Peter’s School Spring Auction. Miss Lewin’s class donated all of the money raised from the sale of their quilt to the St. Peter’s School Scholarship Fund.
