Good Deed: Cradles to Crayons
February 20th, 2009
The Second Grade led the entire St. Peter’s School community in a month-long collection drive for Cradles to Crayons, an organization that gives low-income and homeless children from birth to pre-teen the essentials they need to be safe, warm, ready to learn, and valued. All services are provided free of cost. Cradles to Crayons is the glue between communities that have and communities that need. Partnering with social service agencies enables Cradles to Crayons to reach thousands of individual children each month. Their partners include hospitals, health centers, family-service agencies, shelters and schools, among others.
In addition to advertising the drive and collecting and organizing the many items donated by the St. Peter’s School Community, the Second Grade held a fundraiser to purchase books for Cradles to Crayons. They partnered with Richard DeWyngaert at Head House Books and took a field trip to the bookstore where each student personally selected a book to donate. Head House Books very generously matched each book purchased with a donation of their own. In addition, they held their own community drive for gently used books for Cradles to Crayons. A huge thank you to Richard DeWyngaert and everyone at Head House Books for their generosity and time helping the students carefully select books to donate.
On Thursday, February 5th, the Second Grade delivered all of the items to the Cradles to Crayons warehouse in Horsham. While there, the students received a personal tour of the remarkable facility. Many thanks to everyone in the community who donated items to help children in need.
