Frogs and Toads and a Field Trip – Oh My!
March 11th, 2009
On Wednesday, March 4, the St. Peter’s School Kindergarten went on their first field trip, and what was for many of them, their very first journey on a school bus. The big yellow bus took the lucky children, teachers, and parent chaperones to the Arden Theatre for a matinee performance of “A Year with Frog and Toad”. Prior to the field trip, the teachers read a number of these classic short stories by Arnold Lobel. The children were captivated by the performance because so many bits and pieces that they recognized were skillfully woven into a brilliant plot that focused on two amphibians that are the very best of friends. When asked about their favorite parts of the play, the children listed the sledding scene (“Frog fell off the sled!”), the swimming scene (“Toad wore a funny bathing suit!”), and the cookie scene (“We love cookies!”). Sloan Petersohn said her most favorite part was intermission because she “just likes that word!” All the children happily gave their first field trip two enthusiastic thumbs up, and rated the play with five lily pads (out of five lily pads, of course!)
