First Grade Social Studies Project
October 18th, 2011
The First Graders in Mrs. Baumann’s class presented their project on Christopher Columbus to the Second Grade on October 11. To prepare this project, the students read two books about Columbus and identified the important ideas that they wanted to include in their presentation. Each student wrote about one idea and then drew a picture to illustrate the information on a circular piece of paper. All of the circles were stapled together to create a large sphere. The First Graders were delighted that their project looked like a giant globe, a reminder that exploration by Columbus, and many others demonstrated that the world was not flat as previously thought. Each First Grader spoke about his or her part of the group project and found the Second Grade to be a wonderful audience. The Second Grade students asked excellent questions and made many kind comments!
