Fifth Grade French Festivities
June 11th, 2012
On Wednesday, May 30th, the students in the Fifth Grade French were proud to celebrate their ethnic heritage by hosting an Ethnic Feast. Each student provided a special dish which highlighted their ethnicity. In addition to the delicious buffet, students were treated to an exciting presentation on Grasse, France and the perfume industry by Mrs. Sonia Grasse and her business partner Liz. Mrs. Grasse recently returned from a trip to Grasse, France to research the perfume industry. The students learned how flowers are selected to make perfume. Mrs. Grasse not only discussed the process used to make certain perfumes but had flowers and oils for the students to sample. The students enjoyed the presentation very much.
The celebration also included a visit by Michael Scullin, Esq., the Honorary French Consul in Philadelphia. Mr. Scullin joined the Fifth Grade students for lunch and spoke with them about his responsibilities as Honorary French Consul in Philadelphia. Mr. Scullin was very impressed with the students and expressed his interest in returning to St. Peter’s next year. Mr. Scullin presented Mr. Costello with a book on French Philadelphia. This was a marvelous way to end the festivities.
