A 100th Day Good Deed
April 3rd, 2009
To mark the 100th Day of Kindergarten, Miss Lewin’s class decided to bring in one hundred cans of food to contribute to St. Peter’s Food Cupboard. The nine students and their teacher brought in two cans per day for five school days and enjoyed watching the mountain of cans grow in their classroom’s corner. As their good deed grew before their eyes, they used the non-perishables to practice counting by ones, twos, fives, and tens. They also brought in spare change, which they sorted and counted, and then spent on even more canned good. In the end, the class had 105 items to donate, and they enjoyed a walk with Miss Girardi and the Seventh Grade to see where the Food Cupboard is located. Each child proudly held one can as they marched through the graveyard, chatting with the Seventh Graders who happily carried the students’ large basket and two crates worth of contributions.
